TIEPOLO, Giandomenico
(1726-1804):
Venice receiving Neptune’s Homage , after G.B. Tiepolo
Etching, 1745-50. Rizzi (1971) 107. With the inscription, Rizzi’s third state, but without the number described by Rizzi as being added in the second state. The BM has an impression with both the number and the inscription. There is no evidence of a number having been erased from our impression, therefore the state is somewhat indeterminate,
Watermark: Three crescents
A fine impression, very rich in the dark areas, though drily printed in the upper corners, giving it the kind of hand-printed look often found in Giandomenico’s prints. (Rizzi’s illustration is also dry in the upper left, while the BM impression is drier in the centre.) With small margins all round. Light, even toning, remains of hinging glue in several places, a small loss in the upper left margin corner, overall in very good condition.
